AmorGuard™ Gate Safety Barrier gives greater access to the Terrace Tunnel

Tunnels can often be difficult to access for traffic management when accidents occur, sometimes causing major delays for commuters. The Terrace Tunnel in Wellington City is no exception.

In June this year CSP's ArmorGuard™ Gate Safety Barrier was fitted just past the exit from the tunnel to minimise the effect of incidents on the traffic flow of the city.

"We installed a ArmorGuard™ Gate Safety Barrier for a couple of reasons," said Simon Cager, Project Manager for MWH Wellington. "Every two months the tunnel is closed for maintenance, where the roof of the tunnel is checked and lighting and other repairs are made. We are able to bring in repair and maintenance equipment easily by utilising access through the ArmorGuard™ Gate Safety Barrier."

"In the event of an accident in or around the tunnel the ArmorGuard™ Gate Safety Barrier will be used as an emergency access point for emergency vehicles and it would also be used to divert traffic away up the old access road onto Ghuznee Street," added Simon. "Thankfully we haven't had to use it for that purpose as yet."
